I’m on the fence about this one. I like Adrian Smith’s projects outside of Iron Maiden (ASAP, Psycho Motel), but I’ve read that the guy doing vocals on this project has some weird tendencies (spoken word as opposed to actually singing, as well as making silly and bizarre sounds). I’ll give it a listen, but I’ll be hitting the delete button in rapid fashion if Smith’s contributions are overwhelmed by modern nonsense masquerading as sensible music. I’m all for musical experimentation, but if a performer like Smith is shackled with some nutbar making stupid sounds, I literally have no interest. I’m too old school for a lot of the crap out there today.

Okay – gave it a listen. Hoo boy, Adrian Smith – WTF were you thinking? This Mikee Goodman character sings (when he actually attempts singing) as if he’s gargling razorblades. Bloody awful. Any spark Smith creates with his guitar is overwhelmed by the awful vocals (if you can call them vocals). I took a look at their website, and was immediately struck by the moronic photo of Smith standing in the foreground while Goodman is in the process of leaping off a couch behind him. Either that, or Goodman is going all Tom Cruise like he did on Oprah. In fact, his mouth is wide open in that photo. Who knows? He could be shrieking, “Kaaaaaaaayyyyy-tieeeeeeeeee!!!!!” like Cruise did. Who cares? This album sucks canal water. Focus on Iron Maiden, Adrian. This sludge is miles beneath you.

I approached this from the opposte end from Axelinger. I’ve been a SikTh fan since their first EP and appreciated them FAR more than the love I have for Iron Maiden. While I do have a huge appreciation for the latter, I find this album to be such a disappointment, not because I’m expecting anything from the collaboration to be “somwhere in the middle” or even sounding like either of their other bands (I’m too open minded for that) but that the album is just too BORING! There’s nothing here that keeps my attention with its tired old riffs and Mikee’s “patented” quirky vocal approach. It just doesn’t fit and seems like it was all flung together simply for the sake of it rather than being carefully crafted to stand out as a valid piece of music. I won’t be buying this and I’m glad this site gave me the opportunity to try it out before I maybe spent my hard earned on a lacklustre release.
I must say though, spending most of a supposedly constructive comment complaining about how the band look in a photo doesn’t make for a good argument about whether Axelinger liked the music or not. A disappointingly superficial outlook.

@Axelinger
Your Mum told you my name did she? :p
Take the criticism if you’re going to dish it out.

What a ridiculous statement. Trying to upset me by referencing a person dead since 1988. Classy – real classy.
