Wait, according to these Baptist down here in the South that means Jimi is Clapton! Damn, whatever that’s going to be some hot music!

Jimi would be upset at being called ‘God’. The famous incident with Clapton storming off when he heard Jimi playing ‘Killing Floor’ is grossly overstated. Both had a clear reverence for each other’s playing.
Back to these shows. Jimi was so ahead of his time, he’d need time to catch up with himself. That is NOT a drug reference, by the way. You’d get one show that was completely phenomenal, playing wise. The next, he’d be so off….. You’d wonder if it was all hype with Jimi because of it.
Genius always comes with a flaw. It’s usually their honesty coming through.

  8. Annie Moss Said,

By the way, this collection is a kind of ‘Greatest Hits’ of each of the WInterland nights. It’s even with a ‘Greatest Hits’ of the ‘Greatest Hits’.
I’d suggest once you have these and after listening a few times, go find the complete set of recordings from that series of Winterland gigs. Try to recreate your own collection of the best parts from each night, and then a best of all collection. You appreciate what’s going on with compiling such albums.
Jimi loved making a distinction between studio and stage. Chas Chandler may have enforced the old-skool time limit on Jimi but what can he do when his discovery hits the stage? Freedom is more than expression.
